Working with Intimacy in Couple Relationships
Join this two-day workshop exploring the complex and often delicate ground of intimacy in couple relationships. Many couples seek therapy describing a loss of intimacy in their relationship – whether emotional, physical or sexual. Beneath these concerns lie powerful longings, fears, and relational patterns shaped by both personal histories and the shared story of the relationship.
In this workshop we will explore how we may best work with this familiar presenting issue recognising both the individual histories which couples bring to their relationship and the history of their relationship. We will draw on theoretical discussion, experiential exercises and case material to consider those skills and interventions which may best support this work.
Key learning outcomes
By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:
1. Describe the concept of the intimate ground and its relevance to couple work.
2. Identify common longings, fears, and situational influences that reduce intimacy.
3. Draw on key questions to map individual and relational history relevant to intimacy difficulties.
4. Use experiential exercises and supportive interventions to safely introduce change in sessions.
5. Tailor interventions to honor individual histories while strengthening the couple’s relational patterns.
The workshop will be led by Lynda Osborne, an experienced couples therapist and trainer.
