Working with Eating Disorders: A Somatic Approach
A workshop for therapists and counsellors
In clients with eating disorders, rigid bodily control can serve as an attempt to create a sense of personal and interpersonal stability - a way of experiencing agency and certainty. Yet this control comes at a cost: the capacity to feel oneself in relation to others, and to kinesthetically resonate with the situation, becomes diminished.
Facilitated by Helena Kallner, this webinar explores how integrating body and movement within Gestalt therapy illuminates the relational and existential dynamics at play in eating disorders, and how a somatic perspective deepens our clinical understanding.
The webinar will be experiential and interactive.
You will gain:
- a somatic framework for understanding eating disorders from a relational and existential perspective.
- practical experience of how movement-based exploration supports your practice.
- the ability to distinguish between the lived body and the body-as-object and understand why this distinction matters clinically.
- a deeper understanding of how feeling ourselves with our clients can open new therapeutic possibilities.
